Victim Identified in Big Rig Crash near Thermal
On Monday, the Riverside County coroner identified the victim of a big rig-car collision near Thermal over the weekend as a Mecca man.
Victor Elizarraraz, 20, was the driver of the sedan that was struck by a big rig on state Route 86 near Avenue 62 around 11:25 p.m. Saturday, the coroner said.
Elizarraraz was ejected from the car and thrown about 148 feet to the dirt shoulder.
The person sitting in the passenger seat of the sedan was also killed. That person, who was not ejected during the crash, has not yet been identified.
The tractor-trailer burst into flames, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Cause of the State Route 86 Accident
If news accounts in the KPSP News are accurate, the driver of the big-rig is likely responsible for causing this accident. However, the accident is still under investigation by the California Highway Patrol and an official determination of the cause of the Riverside County crash has not been made.
