MADERA COUNTY,Calif.(KFSN) — Two people are recovering in the hospital after a big rig accident inMaderaCounty.

The crash happened on Highway 41 near Avenue 14 early Monday morning.

The California Highway Patrol says a big rig going northbound on Highway 41 tried to make a u-turn when the driver missed his exit.

The CHP says the big rig pulled out in front of on-coming traffic and the driver of a van wasn’t able to stop in time.

The two people inside the van were taken to the hospital. Their conditions have not been released.

The accident temporarily blocked a portion on Highway 41, but all lanes were back open by midday.

Cause of the Madera County Accident

Although the CHP is continuing to investigate the cause of the collision, based on the information reported, it appears that the driver of the big-rig may be responsible for this accident. The law pertaining to left turns is found in California Vehicle Code Section 21801: “The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left or to complete a U-turn upon a highway, or to turn left into public or private property, or an alley, shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles approaching from the opposite direction which are close enough to constitute a hazard at any time during the turning movement, and shall continue to yield the right-of-way to the approaching vehicles until the left turn or U-turn can be made with reasonable safety.
