Sacramento teen struck by car dies of her injuries

A 16-year-old Sacramento girl has died of injuries suffered when she was struck by a car Thursday afternoon while crossing a south Sacramento street.

Michelle Murigi died Friday night, a day after getting injured crossing Fruitridge Road at 58th Avenue, the Sacramento County Coroner’s office confirmed Saturday.

Sacramento police Sgt. Andrew Pettit said an eastbound car in the far left lane had stopped to allow the girl to cross the street but a car to the right continued driving through the crosswalk “and didn’t see her.”

The girl suffered severe trauma and was rushed to UC Davis Medical Center, where she she was put on life support. The accident remains under investigation.

Cause of the Sacramento Crash

The cause of the initial crash between the pedestrian and the vehicle is under investigation, but police say neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have been a factor. No arrests were reported.
