Man next to disabled vehicle dies in crash

A 32-year-old Hesperia man was killed Friday evening when he and his disabled pickup truck were struck by a passing vehicle and thrown over an embankment, San Bernardino County coroner’s officials said.

Thomas Milton Turner was standing outside his disabled Ford F250 along the northbound lane of Summit Valley Road near Telephone Line Road shortly before 8 p.m., authorities said.

A driver in a Toyota Tacoma traveling north on Summit Valley Road struck the Ford pickup as well as Turner, sending both men and vehicles over the embankment.

San Bernardino County fire personnel declared Turner dead at the scene.

The driver of the Tacoma was not seriously injured, authorities said.
