Loose trailer causes 3-vehicle wreck on 57
BREA – Three vehicles crashed Friday morning after a trailer unhooked from a truck, causing traffic gridlock on the northbound 57, authorities said.
The injury crash was reported just before 7:20 a.m. at Tonner Canyon, according to the California Highway Patrol traffic log.
CHP officer P. Gomez said the truck driver was in the No. 4 lane when the trailer connection broke. The driver continued on as he was unaware that the trailer had unhooked, Gomez said.
The trailer drifted across all lanes and landed in the carpool lane, Gomez added.
Gomez said a Chevy pickup yielded behind the trailer while a white Nissan Sentra stopped in the carpool lane behind the pickup. That’s when a black Nissan Sentra veered out of the fast lane into the carpool lane and slammed into the back of a white Sentra, Gomez added.
The white Sentra was crushed between the black Sentra and the Chevy pickup.
Gomez said three victims were in the white Sentra.
Cause of the Brea Crash
The crash remains under investigation and the California Highway Patrol is expected to release more information today.
