CHP investigate deadly hit and run near Shaver Lake
A 20-year-old Shaver Lake woman has been charged with felony drunken driving and vehicular manslaughter in the death of a Tollhouse man early Sunday on Highway 168 near Shaver Lake.
The California Highway Patrol said Morgan Brown was driving westbound on the highway about 2:30 a.m. when she struck Jaysen Wright, 30, who was walking west along the highway.
Wright, who was identified Monday by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office, was fatally injured. His body was discovered in the roadway about 3 a.m. by a newspaper delivery employee who called 911, the CHP said.
After hitting Wright, Brown drove about three more miles, failed to negotiate a turn, hit a road marker and several trees and overturned down an embankment, the CHP said. She climbed to the roadway and was spotted by a passing ambulance about 7 a.m.
After a preliminary investigation, Brown was arrested, the CHP said.
