An ambulance took Christopher Kisling to Community Regional Medical Center. Deanna Kisling was taken there by helicopter.
The California Highway Patrol reported that a big- rig, driven by Justin Mink, 31, of Fresno, was traveling east on Shepherd Avenue. Mink stopped at stop sign at Academy and proceeded into the intersection.

Laughlin man Killed on I-40
The man killed after his Jeep Wrangler crashed into the rear of a tractor-trailer Friday morning on westbound Interstate 40, roughly 40 miles east of Barstow, has been identified as Daniel Ray Douthit of Laughlin, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner’s Department.
Douthit, 60, was in the number one lane near mile marker 38 when his Wrangler collided into the back of the second of two belly dump trailers being hauled by a semi, which had slowed to approximately five miles per hour, according to the coroner’s department.
The semi was part of a grinding and repaving project on the eastbound I-40 and approaching the construction zone from the opposite side, maneuvering over from the number two lane in an apparent effort to cross through a gap in the center divider, authorities said Friday.
As a result of the crash, the westbound number one lane had closed for several hours, approximately from 8:48 a.m. through 6 p.m., Barstow CHP Officer Don Spiker said Friday.
Douthit, originally believed to be in his mid-fifties, was killed on impact, according to Spiker.
Desert Ambulance and CHP responded to the scene.

2 dead in fiery I-80 head-on crash involving a big rig
A big-rig driver choking on his lunch on Interstate 80 passed out, veered across the freeway near Davis and slammed head-on into a sedan Thursday, killing the car’s driver and a passenger, authorities said.
Both directions of the freeway were shut down for hours after the crash near Old Davis Road at 10:36 a.m.
The trucker lost consciousness as he choked on his food while driving east on I-80, said Officer Chris Parker, a California Highway Patrol spokesman. His truck swerved to the right, glanced off the guardrail and struck two cars as it veered back to the left, Parker said.
The truck then crashed through the center divide guardrail and struck a westbound BMW head-on, killing the car’s driver and a passenger, Parker said.
The big rig then pushed the car to the westbound shoulder and caught fire.
At some point the trucker’s air passage cleared and he regained consciousness. He escaped with minor to moderate injuries and was being held for questioning by CHP officers.
Investigators have not released his name or the names of the victims in the BMW near the Yolo-Solano County line. The drivers of the other two cars hit by the truck suffered minor injuries.

Right of Way
- Pedestrians always have the right of way. So, no matter where you encounter a pedestrian on the road, they always have the right of way. This includes crosswalks, round-a-bouts, at intersections not marked with signals and at street corners. Crosswalks are sometimes defined by white lines or flashing lights. Crosswalks are outlined in yellow near schools.
California Pedestrian Law
“Under California Vehicle Code Section 21950 (a) The driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within any marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection, except as otherwise provided in this chapter.
(b) This section does not relieve a pedestrian from the duty of using due care for his or her safety. No pedestrian may suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a vehicle that is so close as to constitute an immediate hazard. No pedestrian may unnecessarily stop or delay traffic while in a marked or unmarked crosswalk.
(c) The driver of a vehicle approaching a pedestrian within any marked or unmarked crosswalk shall exercise all due care and shall reduce the speed of the vehicle or take any other action relating to the operation of the vehicle as necessary to safeguard the safety of the pedestrian.
(d) Subdivision (b) does not relieve a driver of a vehicle from the duty of exercising due care for the safety of any pedestrian within any marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection.”

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office has identified the bicyclist as Jesus Luera, 57, of Fresno.
Luera was riding a bicycle south on Golden State when the truck hit him from behind. Luera was thrown from his bike and landed on the right shoulder. Tall grass along the road made it difficult to see the bicyclist, who was found hours after the accident, the CHP said.
The truck driver, Gurpreet Singh Bisla, 36, of Fresno, fled the scene but was later identified and booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of a hit and run.

A boy leaving an Elk Grove shopping center was killed today in a motor vehicle accident.
The 12-year-old boy was riding a bike and crossing with a friend at Bond Road and Elk Crest Drive when he was involved in a collision with a pickup truck pulling a camper trailer, said Sgt. Scott French of the Elk Grove Police Department.
It’s not clear exactly how the accident happened, but the truck driver is not suspected of any wrongdoing, French said. The boy was hit by the side and the front of the trailer but not the truck, he said.
The boy might have been trying to get in between the truck and the trailer when it was stopped, French said.
Medical personnel who happened to be in the area tried to revive the boy. He was brought to UC Davis Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The collision caused all three big-rigs to go up in flames. The drivers died at the scene, according to the CHP.

San Bernardino Mountains: Runaway rig hits car, crash kills 2
A truck driver jumped or fell to his death along a mountain highway, leaving a runaway rig to jackknife across an entire road until it crushed an oncoming car, killing that driver and injuring the passenger, investigators say.
A mechanical inspection will be conducted on the three-axle flatbed truck to determine whether its brakes failed prior to the wreck, which closed Highway 330 between Highland and the mountaintop town of Running Springs from about 2:30 p.m. until well beyond sunset Monday, Oct. 22.
“We have no witnesses who saw the collision, so it’s undetermined whether he was ejected … or otherwise,” California Highway Patrol Officer Gary Fernandez said.
Killed were the drivers of the truck and a white 2005 Acura RL.
The car’s passenger — a 58-year-old woman — was taken to a hospital for treatment of chest and left leg pain and scrapes to her right hand, Fernandez said.
Both occupants of the car are from the Big Bear area, but none of the three victims’ names have been released.
“He’s a real nice guy. He was the life of the crew,” concrete company official Art Rodriguez said of the truck driver, whom he said was married and the father of four children. “Very easy going. He always offered (his assistance) if anybody needed help.”
The driver was part of a five-man crew that had been returning from a Big Bear-area jobsite to the Monrovia headquarters of Cell-crete Specialty Concrete Contractors, said Rodriguez, the firm’s safety director.
The crew’s other four workers were following in a pickup well behind the flatbed truck, which was pulling a trailer loaded with a Bobcat earthmover and a forklift. The pickup wasn’t involved in the accident.
The wreck began on a straight stretch of Highway 330 when the truck left the road and climbed a hillside, then veered back onto the highway, said Fernandez, the CHP officer.
Soon after that, the truck driver flew out of the cab and died where he fell. But the truck rolled on for about another 150 feet.
“We now have a driverless truck continuing (downhill and veering) into the up-bound lane,” Fernandez said. “It’s jackknifing and is across both lanes. The Acura had nowhere to go and drove under the flatbed truck.”
Fire crews had to cut the couple free of the car’s wreckage.

Big rig crash closes 60 Freeway in Diamond Bar, one person dead
One man was killed and three men were injured Friday morning in a pileup involving three big rigs on the 60 Freeway.
The crash led to the closure of the eastbound 60 for several hours, and the temporary closure of the westbound lanes as well.
Coroner’s officials didn’t release the dead man’s name because his next of kin hasn’t been notified yet. The California Highway Patrol identified him as a 46-year-old Norco resident.
CHP Officer Kerri Rivas said a Ford F7000 box truck and a tractor trailer traveling on the eastbound 60, west of Phillips Ranch Road got into a minor collision at 11:03 a.m.
They pulled onto the freeway shoulder to exchange insurance information. The Ford’s driver, his two passengers and the big rig driver were standing between the vehicles.
A third truck carrying bananas and tomatoes came into view.
“For unknown reasons, (the driver) veers to the right and rear ends the parked big rig. The big rig lurches about 15 feet forward and crushes three of the four people,” Rivas said.
The third truck then veered to the left and overturned onto the freeway, spilling boxes of bananas across the lanes. Some fuel also spilled onto the freeway.
Rivas said the driver of the box truck was pronounced dead at the scene.
One of his passengers was able to jump out of the way and wasn’t hurt.
But the second passenger, 40-year-old Arnold Hutchinson of Mira Loma, ended up with major injuries. Rivas said Hutchinson was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center then flown by helicopter to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center where he is in critical condition.
The driver of the parked big rig, 53-year-old Constantino Olmos of Riverside, also sustained major injuries. Olmos was taken by helicopter to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center and is in the intensive care unit, according to Rivas. He is listed in critical condition.
She said the man driving the third truck, Emilio Alvarez, 23, of South Gate, complained of pain and was treated at San Dimas Community Hospital.
The eastbound lanes of the 60 Freeway, from the 57 freeway to Phillips Ranch Road, were shut down. Traffic was diverted off the freeway.
Officials with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office arrived at the scene about 2 p.m. to retrieve the body.
Coroner’s investigator Elissa Fleak said an autopsy is scheduled this Sunday.
The closure of the eastbound lanes resulted in a traffic jam stretching into Rowland Heights. Westbound lanes were closed for a short time to allow a rescue helicopter to land. Traffic was also jammed on the northbound 57 from Tonner Canyon Road.
The car pool lane, the No, 1 and 2 lanes were reopened at 5:55 p.m. All eastbound lanes were opened at 7:17 p.m.
