Bicyclist dies in Imperial Avenue crash

SAN DIEGO — A 20-year-old bicyclist died Wednesday afternoon after being struck by one vehicle and run over by another in southeastern San Diego, police said.

The accident was reported about 3:05 p.m. on Imperial Avenue at 61st Street in Encanto, police said.

A woman reported that she had run over a man who had been struck by another motorist and knocked from his bicycle, police Lt. Andra Brown said. Both motorists stayed at the scene and cooperated with police.

Police said the cyclist was riding north on 61st and ran a red light at Imperial.

The man was trapped beneath the second vehicle and died, authorities said. Imperial Avenue was closed off for an investigation, which was expected to last for several hours.
