Freeway wreck in Castro Valley injures two
Two women were injured, one critically, when the vehicles they were driving eastbound on Interstate 580 collided Saturday, the California Highway Patrol said.
Mira Hernandez, 27, of Oakland, suffered a fractured pelvis and facial fractures and was taken to Eden Hospital in Castro Valley after the Chrysler Sebring she was driving appeared to cut off a Jeep Cherokee driven by Patricia Brohard, 55, of Pleasanton, CHP officer Brian Adams said.
Brohard was driving about 65 mph in the far left lane, Adams said, when Hernandez appeared to steer the Chrysler Sebring to its left, crossing through one lane and then entering the No. 1 lane and colliding with the front of Brohard’s Jeep.
Both vehicles hit the concrete divider wall. Hernandez was unconscious when rescuers arrived, and Brohard was complaining of pain to her face, chest and ribs, and she had cuts to her face, Adams said. She was taken to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Hayward.
The collision remains under investigation.
